The Got 2B Safe! Awards Program recognizes those teachers with the greatest commitment to teaching child safety. Since 2005, nearly 4,000 teachers from across the country have submitted essays and lesson plans on how they implement the Got 2B Safe! Four Rules of Safety into their classrooms. To date, 20 Grand Prize winners and nearly 400 first prize winners have been recognized. Grand prize winners receive full classroom makeovers, while other winners receive gift certificates for school supplies. Learn about their stories below.

Spring Mills Elementary School

Lesson Plan:
Overview: Teach children strategies on how to be safe. We will use a pre/post test system.

Key Points: Pre test with class performance system software Police liaison visitor Student Created Posters Skits Presented to class Post test with CPS systems

Lesson Plan: Teacher will create and administer a pre test on safety habits. It will be administered by using a computer software system. Our community police liason officer will visit the classroom to share and demonstrate safety procedures. A parent public safety officer will also and discuss safety with the children. Students will then create posters about safety rules to be displayed in public areas of our school building. The third graders will then use the Got 2B Safe "situations" in activity two. They will work in small groups to discuss and present a skit to their classmates showing one of the "situations". Following all activities, a post test using the computer class performance system units will be administered and compared to the pre test.
