The Got 2B Safe! Awards Program recognizes those teachers with the greatest commitment to teaching child safety. Since 2005, nearly 2,000 teachers from across the country have submitted essays and lesson plans on how they implement the Four Rules Of Safety into their classrooms. To date, 10 Grand Prize winners, and over 200 other winners have been recognized. Grand prize winners receive full classroom makeovers, while other winners receive gift certificates for school supplies. Learn about their stories below.

Mission Bend Elementary School

Lesson Plan:
Overview: Students will be introduced to "Four Rules" for personal safety. Students will role play the "right" and "wrong" way to behave in scenarios that reflect the Four Rules of personal safety.

Key Points:
1. Teaching of 4 rules for Personal Safety
2. Introduction of sensitive topic "It's My Body" by listening to section of story entitled "I Can Say NO!"
3. Reviewing, discussing and reflecting scenes that demonstrate 4 rules.

Lesson Plan: (3 Days)
Day 1 - Students will be introduced to sensitive topic of "It's My Body" by reading aloud Golden Book "You Can Say NO!" Also the 4 rules for Personal Safety will be introduced.
Day 2 - Students will be broken into groups to practice and act out a teacher created scenario that reflect the incorrect and correct methods to react using the 4 rules. The finished portion of this will be recorded so it could be shared with other classes.
Day 3 - The third grade in our school will gather to view the tape. Students will discuss the scenarios given the 4 Rules for Safety with a Springfield, NJ Police present to share his advice. At the conclusion, students will write a short reflection paragraph demonstrating how this experience has made them a safer and more responsible child.
