Being safe is a BIG DEAL. To help my students learn the safety rules of Check First, Go With a Friend, It's My Body, and Tell a Trusted Adult, we play a game of Deal or No Deal modeled after the popular TV show.

Before game day, I make 15 brief cases out of black construction paper.

Fifteen students stand in front of the room holding a case. Inside each case I created a scenerio such as, A friend invited me over after school and I decided to go because my parents are at work and won't miss me. Students in the audience would identify the actions of this kid as a NO DEAL.

Other cases might say, A middle school kid offered me some candy on the bus, but I said no thanks. The class would reply good DEAL.

After all the cases have been open, students would review all the safety rules and then go play the game in first and second grade classrooms so other students in our school will also learn the BIG DEAL about safety.
